The distinction
A system can identify a signal without changing what happens next. Our working method separates technical detection from the human or controlled response and from the resulting animal outcome.
Three questions for a pilot
What is detected, and against which reference? Who receives the information and has the authority to act? What evidence would show that the action improves the animal’s situation compared with the alternative?
The operating conditions matter
A proposal should address missed cases and false alarms, but also staffing, response time, maintenance and what happens when the system is unavailable. A benchmark result does not answer these questions on its own.
What this note establishes
This is a project-scoping framework. It does not assess a monitoring product or conclude that cameras and sensors are generally effective or ineffective. The next useful step is to examine a particular system in a defined setting.
