EFSA’s 2020 opinion examines pre-stunning, stunning and bleeding as distinct phases. It identifies pain, fear and respiratory distress among the possible welfare consequences and discusses animal-based measures. This helps frame a question about the whole sequence.
The question for Aelzia
For a specified system and population, which intervention could reduce adverse experiences during induction or the risk of ineffective stunning, without causing a worse outcome elsewhere?
What we need before a conclusion
A method-specific scientific assessment, a defined comparator, relevant indicators, representative observations and failure records. We also need the operating sequence and people qualified to evaluate it.
Current boundary
This brief does not estimate prevalence in Spain or Portugal, identify a poor-performing plant or endorse a stunning method. It is not an operating protocol. The next useful contribution is a relevant primary study or qualified technical critique.
